Beautiful sunsets and clear water, nature at its best!
The Barra Bash is an annual fishing competition held on Lake Tinaroo around November, when the warming water provides optimum conditions for barramundi fishing.
The event has been running since 1987 and is hosted by the Tableland Fish Stocking Society (TFSS), a community organisation dedicated to stocking the waterways of the Atherton Tablelands with suitable fish species for recreational fishing. The society also works to maintain the fishery and habitat, promote the area as a family recreation destination, and foster conservation among anglers.
Competitors use a dedicated app to log their catches during the event — participants photograph each fish on a brag mat, enter its length, and submit it electronically to the organisers to be in the running for prizes. Categories include Champion Angler, Longest Barra (Men’s, Women’s, and Junior divisions), and a Mystery Length competition. AIonX The event also has a strong community fundraising element, with funds raised going toward purchasing and raising barramundi for restocking the lake and maintaining the barrier net used during high rainfall to prevent fish from going over the dam wall.
It’s a great family-friendly event that draws anglers from across Far North Queensland and beyond!
